Woman tries to smuggle 1,170 parrots. Customs officers count all of them

Customs officers of the Domodedovo Airport in Moscow prevented the smuggling of 66 rare parrots. According to the press service of the Russian Customs Service, a 24-year-old Russian woman was trying to import 66 love birds to Russia from Uzbekistan. The woman presented the customs declaration and permissive documents for 1,170 shell parakeets and corellas.

However, when officers were inspecting the container, in which the cages with birds were kept, it turned out that there were also 66 love birds among the declared species. The woman had no documents for those birds: she hoped that officers would not be counting the birds, RIA Novosti reports. "Agapornis fischeri, or love birds, are one of the species regulated by the Convention for International Trade in Endangered Species," a customs officer stated. The officer added that love birds live in Africa and Madagascar. The birds are listed in Appendix II of the above-mentioned convention - it is illegal to transport the birds across customs borders without adequate documents. Newsru
